Since we hear this question again and again: Yes, we [do] consider buying links via [Text Link Ads] http://tinyurl.com/39epw3 and similar services as spam.
I suppose that, were those links be disclosed to the readers and structured as “no-follow” links, they would be OK.

Danny Sullivan seems to have one king category (“search marketing”) with 2 sub-categories (“SEO” and “paid search”). He has a separate category for “link building”, which I would put into SEO.

Sophie Gironi (an Internet marketing expert) makes me realize that there are 2 definitions of search engine marketing:
- one restricted definition where SEM is confined to search engine advertising (and pitted against SEO);
- one larger definition where SEM encompasses everything including SEO.
